What hair powder is for
Hair powder — sometimes labelled texture or volume powder — is a fine powder you apply at the roots for lift and grip rather than hold.
What it does
It absorbs oil, coats the strand and increases friction between hairs. The result is more apparent thickness, more volume at the root and a matte, slightly gritty texture.
Who it suits
Fine and flat hair benefits most. On thick, coarse hair the added grip can feel unnecessary, and on very dry hair the matte effect can look dull.
How to use it
A small amount at the roots on dry hair, worked in with fingertips, then style. It is easy to overdo: too much leaves a chalky feel and visible residue on dark hair.
